“How have you been, Izzy?”

“How do you know my name?” she said. Backing up she heard another voice.

“Oh come on, dear girl. Don’t be afraid. We are just making sure the birds are properly fed. Falcon, is that her?” A man and a golden retriever came out from the other side of the clearing. The man was carrying a bowl and when Iris looked inside, she shuddered. The contents were moving.

“Are you Joseph?” Iris asked hesitantly, but the golden retriever came running at her and jumped on her chest knocking the wind out of her and making her fall over in surprise. She couldn’t help but start laughing when the dog started to lick her hands, even though her laughs were pained and made her cough.

“No, I am Winston Churchill. Of course I am me, silly girl. And you are Iris Helen Azure, daughter of Elena Delilah Azure and Roger, the man who pays me to live here. Now that we have the introductions over with, would you mind helping us? There is a bird feeder over there that needs to be hung and Falcon can’t figure out where to put it.” The man was slowly spilling out the contents of the bowl into the cracks and crevices in the logs. Soon, more Lyrebirds started to come. “I spoil you silly birds rotten. Most birds have to hunt you know.”

“So...you know me?” Iris said. Both Joseph and Falcon turned towards her and tilted their heads in confusion.

“Of course we do,” Joseph said, bringing Iris the birdfeeder. He moved cautiously, as if he was uncertain about getting too close.

“Where would you like it?” he asked.
