He snagged it out of the air and groaned. “You are so …superstitious!”
“I am a vampire. If that doesn’t prove that superstitious people are right, I don’t know what does.”

Novel: My Soul to Keep
Author: Rachel Vincent
Pages: 304
Genre: YA Urban Fantasy

Photobucket

Kaylee has one addiction: her very hot, very popular boyfriend, Nash. A banshee like Kaylee, Nash understands her like no one else. Nothing can come between them.
Until something does.
Demon breath. No, not the toothpaste-challenged kind. The Netherworld kind. The kind that really can kill you. Somehow the super-addictive substance has made its way to the human world. But how? Kaylee and Nash have to cut off the source and protect their friends—one of whom is already hooked.
And so is someone else…

(I will not be posting any spoilers! Only opinion for the sake of those of us who love to have our first look at a book be untainted by foreknowledge.)

I have already been hooked on this series since My Soul to Take and read each of the three novels before this one, including the free e-book from Rachel Vincent’s website. Let me state, I did not see this coming! I am both in awe and yes somehow horrified. It was brilliant and my emotions are so mixed up right now. I can’t say too much without giving anything away and I don’t want to spoil the surprises but let me just say, you just might find yourself in complete shock! I know I still am. This novel somehow managed to make all of the characters more real for me, more human in both wonderful and horrifying ways. Let me say it also makes me really proud of Kaylee and may have made me fall for Tod just a little bit. I can hardly wait to see what will happen next!

Photobucket

5 Stars!

Would I suggest you read it:

Amazing book that is a must read for all Rachel Vincent and Soul Screamer fans! Completely series altering in a way that I am sure will really make the series shine in the next novel which I will be waiting for most impatiently.

“Kaylee, do you believe in déjà vu?” Harmony smiled amiably and pulled a carton of milke from the fridge. “Because the sight of you lying injured on that couch is starting to look awfully familiar.”

Review: The Iron Daughter & 100th Post!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Novel: Iron Daughter
Author: Julie Kagawa
Pages: 368
Genre: FICTION - JUVENILE: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Magic

Photobucket

Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron Fey, iron-bound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's alone in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

(I will not be posting any spoilers! Only opinion for the sake of those of us who love to have our first look at a book be untainted by foreknowledge.)

This novel is not like The Iron King when it comes to the pace of the novel The Iron King started off slower and the suspense and pace quickened, The Iron Daughter has you on the edge of your seat within minutes, jumping right in where The Iron King left off. There is a lot that I can’t write without giving away spoilers or making this review too spoilery but wow… just wow. Amazing book. Wonderful sequel and if Julie Kagawa keeps getting this much better with every passing novel we are all in for a tremendous treat in years to come. This novel has everything from despair and passion to true friendship and adventure. Stunning novel that has left me waiting for a sequal!

Photobucket

5 Stars!!!!!!

Would I suggest you read it:

Yes! If you have already read The Iron King then this is a must. If you haven’t then go get The Iron King and this novel and read them in order, (it is just better and easier to understand that way.) Amazing novel, amazing pace and style and overall, look out author’s worldwide, Julie Kagawa is a contender. You may find her ninja-ing your fans right out from your novel’s pages if she keeps growing with each passing novel!

When I opened the door, Tiaothin, no longer a goat or cat, stared at me and broke into a toothy leer. “This way,” she hissed, backing into the icy corridor. Her yellow eyes seemed to float in the darkness. “The queen awaits.”

Review: Hard Magic

Photobucket

Photobucket

Novel: Hard Magic
Author: Laura Anna Gilman
Pages: 329
Genre: FICTION - ADULT: Romance: Other

Photobucket

Welcome to P.U.P.I.—Private, Unaffiliated, Paranormal Investigations
A handpicked team trained to solve crimes the regular police can't touch—crimes of magic.
My name's Bonnie Torres. Recent college grad, magic user and severely unemployed. Until I got a call out of nowhere to interview for a job I hadn't applied for. It smelled fishy, but the brutal truth was I needed the work—so off I went.
Two days later I'm a PUPI—me and Nick, Sharon, Nifty and Pietr. Five twentysomethings, thrown into an entirely new career in forensic magic.
The first job we get is a doozy: proving that the deaths of two Talents were murder, not suicide. Worse, there are high-profile people who want us to close up shop and go away. We're sniffing out things they'd rather keep buried.
Looks as if this job is gonna get interesting. The only problem is, we're making it up as we go along….

(I will not be posting any spoilers! Only opinion for the sake of those of us who love to have our first look at a book be untainted by foreknowledge.)

I am impressed. This year seems to be full of amazing beginnings to new series and Hard Magic is no exception. Each of the characters are unique and imperfect which is something I love because it means that not only is there room for the characters to grow in future novels but they are characters I can relate to more and hopefully you will feel the same. This series is a spin-off of the Retrievers books Staying Dead, Curse the Dark, Bring it on, Burning Bridges, etc. but don’t expect a retriever novel. This novel is amazing and something entirely new. Take it as it comes and you are sure to enjoy it!

Photobucket

4 1/2 Stars!

Would I suggest you read it:

I would suggest this novel to anyone looking to start a new series, who enjoy the topic of magical investigation or investigation with magical or paranormal aspects and anyone looking for some rock solid characters who are flawed and all the better because of it.

“I’m harmless in public, entertaining in private, and up-to-date on all my shots and papers. May my old lines and I buy you a cup of coffee?”

This hadn’t exactly been the distraction I’d been thinking of, but when you’re made such a very nicely packaged offer… I cast a look over the Temple, and be damned if I didn’t feel a very distinct smirk coming off the energy rising out of it. Or maybe that was just me, projecting.

“You may, indeed.”

Review: Wildthorn by Jane Eagland

Photobucket

Photobucket

Novel: Wildthorn
Author: Jane Eagland
Pages: 352
Genre: YA

Photobucket

They strip her naked, of everything—undo her whalebone corset, hook by hook. Locked away in Wildthorn Hall—a madhouse—they take her identity. She is now called Lucy Childs. She has no one; she has nothing. But, she is still seventeen—still Louisa Cosgrove, isn't she? Who has done this unthinkable deed? Louisa must free herself, in more ways than one, and muster up the courage to be her true self, all the while solving her own twisted mystery and falling into an unconventional love . . .

Photobucket
(I will not be posting any spoilers! Only opinion for the sake of those of us who love to have our first look at a book be untainted by foreknowledge.)

This is a novel that keeps the pages turning. I believe others who had read this novel will agree with me when I say that Wildthorn has just the right amount of suspense to keep your heart beating wildly and your eyes glued to the pages as they fly by. This is definitely a one sitting kind of novel and while it has such a dark premise there is something about it I just can’t put my finger on that draws you in. I really enjoyed this book and am impressed with Jane Eagland and her fluid writing style that keeps the Victorian feel to the story while still having it be a novel that is modern enough to be understood by YA fans of all ages. I look forward to Jane Eagland’s next novel and am thrilled with this one!

Photobucket

5 Stars!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would I suggest you read it:

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! IF you like Victorian novels, novels that deal with mental instability or are looking for a novel that will keep you guessing this one is it!

I daren’t move. The darkness presses on my eyes and ears and I listen out for footsteps. Surely they’ll be back soon? All I can hear is a muffled drip drip.

I realize I’m holding my breath. I let it go, then breath in just a little through my nose. I’m scared of swallowing the blackness.

Why have they done this to me? I’ve done nothing wrong.
